Found new info on 1.3 update...

New enchanting!: max level is now 30 but you get epic enchantments with it.
New trading!: you can trade with villagers to obtain enchanted weapons/armour.
Mining for XP!: You can mine the following to get XP: coal,diamond,emerald. You can also get XP by smelting and cooking items and from getting achievments!

Release date-sometime next month, we've been promised a notice a week in advance.

NOTE: these are just examples, there is a whole lot more coming...
